Welcome to YouTown, the intersection of open data and mobile government. We like to think YouTown embodies much of the “Gov 2.0” concept — government data made accessible and simple through location-based mobile technologies. It is the first platform to offer a one-stop-shop for community information (events, news, maps, and services) in the format of a mobile app.
YouTown formally launched this past spring, after a year of Beta testing with over 25 cities, counties, and agencies across the US and Canada. We asked them what they wanted from a mobile government app, and used their valuable insights in developing the final product. Since its release, YouTown has been favorably received by communities and received recognition by the White House as a “Champion of Change” in the future of open government innovation.
YouTown began with the idea that mobile government should be within reach of all cities and counties — no matter the size or budget. From this goal, we developed a platform that could serve as a hub for the whole mass of community information — from any department or agency within a government — all of which could be published from a simple admin interface, straight to the smartphones of citizens! Offering a free version of YouTown is part of our commitment to making mobile government an option for ANY town.
YouTown is a product of DotGov, Inc. We are based in Seattle and our passion is helping governments utilize new technologies in affordable ways that promote transparency and collaboration with citizens. We like Gov 2.0 and work hard to develop solutions that can be used by agencies of every size.
